AP / ECE Test

Here is the review sheet for the test that you will take this week.

The test will be short answer.  You will have to do five.

Period 1 will be on Wednesday (2/26/14)
Period 3 will be in Thursday  (2/27/14)

Chapters:  parts of 9, 10, 12 & 13 Review Sheet

Chapter 9: The Market Revolution
1.     How did the Marshall Court Shape American Nationalism?
2.     Also, consider how the Marshal court affected the American economy.
(Review the decisions)

Chapter 10: Democracy in America
America looked to find a sense of nationalism in the early republic period.
&
Andrew Jackson shaped America politically, economically and socially.
1.     How did the American system want to affect the nation’s growth?
2.     What was the Panic of 1819?
3.     Consider the Missouri Compromise and its effects on America.
4.     How was the Monroe Doctrine an example of American Nationalism?
5.     What was the “Corrupt Bargain?”
6.     Consider the following aspects of the Age of Jackson: Politics, Nullification, Native American policy and the Bank War. (I will put more specific questions on the test.)


Chapter 12: The Age of Reform
Americans worked to create distinct cultures by fostering change through various groups throughout American history.
1.     How did different groups try to shape distinct societies within America?
2.     Consider the goals of the Oneidas, Shakers and Mormons.  How did they contribute to a lasting American society?
3.     Consider the importance of abolitionism in American society.
4.     What were the roots of the feminist movement? (consider suffrage and temperance)
5.     How was education reformed to contribute to American democracy?

Chapter 13: A House Divided
Manifest destiny drove America to acquire more land, which resulted in major sectional issues, leading to severe conflicts within politics, society and the economy.

1.     How did the new territory from the Mexican War give rise to new problems?
2.     What were the Compromise of 1850, Kansas-Nebraska Act, & the Dred Scott decision?
3.     How did slavery contribute to the rising tension in the nation?
5.     What was the difference between a “Free Soiler” and the “Pro Slavery” movements?

Your task is to decide whether men like Andrew Carnegie, John Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan and Cornelius Vanderbilt were Robber Barons or Captains of Industry.

Outline is due on Wednesday February 12, 2014.  The outline must be typed.  You will hand in a copy to me on Friday, but keep a copy for yourself so you can prepare for the discussion on Wednesday 2/12/14

The outline should follow this format:

THESIS: Put your statement at the top.  What is your position on the subject?  Be as specific as possible.

      A. Evidence
             1. Specific examples from the evidence to support your point.
             2. You can have more than one.
      B. Evidence

Follow the same format for Points 2 & 3

You will use the outline for your seminar discussion.
